What to Know Before You Call a Bail Bondsman

Nobody plans on being sent to jail; however, sometimes accidents happen. If you’ve ever found yourself in jail unexpectedly, you know that your mind immediately starts wondering how you’re going to get yourself out. Luckily, getting out of jail isn’t always as hard as one might imagine.
While getting yourself into legal trouble can be very stressful, it’s important to remember that there are people who are qualified to help you. If you or a loved one has recently been incarcerated and you don’t want to stay in jail until your court date, the best thing to do is call a bail bondsman. This article will tell you everything you need to know before you make that call.

Pay the Price

Getting a bail bondsman may seem like a magical get-out-of-jail-free card, but that’s not necessarily true. While bail bondsmen can be very helpful, you must remember that you’ll still need to pay for their services. If you’ve gotten yourself into legal trouble, there’s no getting around some of the consequences.
As you start looking for the right bail bonds company, keep your budget in mind. Different companies will charge different fees. Try to find someone who will be completely transparent with you about what their costs are.

Have the Right Information

There are a couple different things you’ll need to know before you contact a bail bondsmen. First and foremost, you’ll need to know the name of the person who was arrested and where he or she is being held. If you are the person in jail, you’ll likely know all of this information already. However, if you are a friend or family member of the arrested person, make sure you get this information right!
Next, you’ll need to find out the booking number and the charges of the arrested person. If you are unsure of these things, you can most likely get the information for the jail where the person is being held.
You’ll also need to know the amount of bail set for the person in jail. Many factors play into setting this amount, including the charges against this person and this person’s criminal history. The bail bondsman can find out the amount of bail by calling the jail, but if you already know the number, you can get started faster.
If you feel that there is any other relevant information that your bail bondsman should know, definitely take note of it and tell him or her. It’s important that your bail bondsman be given as much information as possible if you want them to be able to help you.

Finding the Right Person

Being in jail is a big deal, so you want to make sure that you find the right person to help get you out. Make sure to do your research to make sure that your bail bondsman is qualified and trustworthy—you don’t want to work with someone who will pressure you later on or charge you an unfair rate.
A great way to make sure you are finding the right bail bondsman is to read reviews. If his or her previous clients were happy with the services they received, you probably will be satisfied, too. And remember, there’s no harm in asking a potential bail bondsman about the cases he or she has worked on in the past.
If you or someone you love has recently landed themselves in jail, try to remain calm. There are people out there who are ready and qualified to give you the legal services you need. With a bit of research, you’ll be well on your way to getting yourself (or a friend or family member) out of jail.
